BMW M4 Heritage edition destined for South Africa [photos]

BMW has revealed a new limited-edition M4 which is sure to become a future collectible.

As part of keeping its two-door performance car icon relevant in a market with strong rivals, BMW has committed to producing a limited run of 750 M4 Heritage models.

These cars will be assembled and disseminated to select global markets and South Africa will only receive ten.

A look at the BMW M4 Heritage edition

So, what will those ten privileged M4 Heritage edition customers take ownership of?

Mechanically there are no differences between the Heritage cars and any conventional M4. Both are powered by the same twin-turbocharged 3-litre engine, which features BMW’s traditional inline six-cylinder configuration.

Power outputs are classified at 331kW and 550Nm, with drive to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Similar to all other BMW M4 coupes, these Heritage edition cars offer significantly rapid performance with 0-100kph acceleration in 4.2 seconds.

What distinguishes the Heritage edition car from other M4s are an array of styling upgrades and interior design trinkets.

The most noticeable exterior change are embedded colour lines which are painted into the roof’s carbon-fibre material and surfaced over with a clear lacquer. These colour lines run the length of an M4 Heritage car’s roof, and are a composition of the legendary BMW Motorsport corporate colours: light blue, dark blue and red.

Beyond the symbolic roof design, the M4 Heritage cars also feature a range of vivid paint finishes: Laguna Seca Blue, Velvet Blue metallic and Imola Red.

The stylised colourways are repeated inside where the M-specification front seats feature contrasting colour inserts. BMW’s bi-colour Heritage edition seats are tailored with a specific contrasting colourway, depending which of the three exterior paint finishes are chosen.

Other cabin details which differentiate the Heritage edition cars are carbon console strips with M-badging and door sill treadplates which feature the specific build number, to ensure you know which of 750 you are getting into.
